Gromit Unleashed 2 Auction!

GOING! GOING! GONE!

Last Wednesday evening was truly a night to remember: after spending the summer on the streets of Bristol, 66 Wallace, Gromit and Feathers statues went under the hammer to raise money for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Under the wings of Concorde at the Aerospace Bristol Museum, comedian Dawn French and Aardman co-founder Peter Lord began proceedings, before passing the auction duties to master auctioneer Richard Madley. From then on in, the excitement in the room grew to epic proportions as the bids started to come in from guests and online and telephone bidders, bringing the auction total to an incredible £1.3 million by the end of the night!

The biggest selling sculptures of the night were shared by 2 Wallaces, going for £55,000 each – including the Peter Sallis-inspired ‘A Grand Tribute’, designed by Nick Park. Other big sellers included the mosaic ‘The Emperor’ Feathers , selling for £38,000, while  Nick Park’s Classic Gromit reached a final bid of £42,000. Other big bids came in for ‘Wallace in Wonderland’ (£40,000) ‘Rocket Man’ (£32,000) and ‘Stellar’ (£30,000)

Closing the night was ‘We Are All Stars’, hand painted by patients from Bristol Children's Hospital and a touching reminder of why the trail exists, selling for £16,000.

Including trail app sales, contactless donations and raffle tickets, the grand total made by the trail so far comes in at a spectacular £1,620,000 – what an amazing achievement!
